Wilder Refuses To Be Drawn Into Argument With Klopp Over ‘Selfish’ Comments

Chris Wilder has refused to be drawn into an argument with his Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp, who called the Sheffield United manager ‘selfish’ after the Reds drew with Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.

The champions could not pick up maximum points at the AMEX Stadium amid more VAR controversy and Klopp had a sly dig at Wilder afterwards.

Wilder has been vocal against the introduction of the five-substitutions rule even as Premier League players struggle to contend with the workload at this early stage of the season.

Klopp saw Liverpool’s injury problems continue to mount after James Milner suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury in the game.

With Sheffield struggling at the foot of the table, Klopp is surprised Wilder has not changed his stance.

"I'm not interested in that today," Wilder told Sky Sports of Klopp’s comments after the Blades lost 1-0 to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

"Maybe that's for another time. As Jurgen made a good observation, we are just on one point. It's not the time to talk about it.

"Everybody has that right and there's 20 votes in this league. Nobody is looking after Sheffield United right the way through, so we have to look after ourselves.

"I'm not really going into the nuts and bolts, I've got a huge amount of respect for Liverpool as a football club, and for Jurgen, whether it's looking after the club, whether it's 'selfish', or another word that anybody uses.

"By the way there's a few more managers in there who have looked after their own club… that's enough from me."
